How to Use This Manual

Using the Online Manual
Read instructions on Navigation, Hyperlinks, Hotspots, Pop-ups, and Side-by-Side.

Navigation
This manual contains three Navigation sections Index column, Search menus, and Homepage.

The Index column (grey shaded area to the left) lists the topic name for the related procedures. For example, Adversary Proceedings contains all related adversary procedures. To open the Adversary Proceedings section, click on the section and a list of adversary procedures will appear below the folder. Each procedure is listed alphabetically and can be accessed by clicking on the procedure name. For example, click on Adversary Removal. The Adversary Removal procedure appears to the right-side of the index column.

The Search menus are listed above the Index column with menu names of Contents, Search and Home.

Contents are the folders that are in the Index column.
Search is a search engine used to type the name of the procedure or keyword to search for procedures. For example, type in Stay in the Search field and press the "Enter" key and a list of procedures that are either related or have the word Stay in it will appear in the Index column.
Home accesses the homepage of the manual.

Note: All of the items in the Index column can be hidden temporarily if using the manual side-by-side with CM/ECF, click on the "x" below the Search Menus. To see the Index column again, click on any of the Search Menus. It will display the last items before closing the column.

Homepage can be used for several functions. It displays the "What's New" page for any update or new procedures in the manual. It lists hyperlinks to access the CM/ECF Live Database for docketing, Alphabetical and Category Doctype Directories, ECF Training database, etc.

Hyperlinks, Hotspots, Pop-Ups

The procedure may contain one or more of the following:

Hyperlinks may link to outside sites, other procedures within the manual or other court resources, such as forms, local rules, etc. Click here for example.
Hotspots areas of the procedure which the text is temporarily hidden. Once the user decides what route the document needs to take in order to process, the user opens the hotspot option. Click here for example.

You made your selection. If you want to hide the text again, click on the hotspot's hyperlink to close.
Pop-ups are smaller windows within the procedure. They are linked to procedures that are helpful with the process. For example a common pop-up seen in the procedure would be Browse. When the user clicks on Browse it will automatically pop up to the Help procedure named Browse, verify and attach. This procedure is a simple reminder on how to browse for your PDF and attach it to the browse field in ECF. Click here for example.

Side-by-Side

Working with the manual side-by-side with CM/ECF allows the user to refer to the procedure without having to print the procedure. To use side-by-side function the staff procedure manual and CM/ECF's windows must be opened. Then the windows have to be resized. The recommended window size for the procedure manual is one third (1/3) of the computer screen and CM/ECF window is two thirds (2/3) the computer screen.

To resize, adjust or move windows

To resize click on the "Restore" button at the top-right hand corner, middle button. This will reduce the size of the window. ( example)
To adjust the window's height; with the double arrows showing, click on the top or bottom of the window frame and move up or down.
To move and place the two windows side-by-side, click and hold one of the top window's blue bar with a single arrow showing and move to the left or right. Repeat the same for the second window.
